Impact of Health Disparities on Patient Outcomes in Asthma Care

Ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities in asthma care are a result of multiple factors operating at the individual and community levels. Awareness of these factors is essential for healthcare professionals to help advocate for universal access to high-quality care for their patients with asthma, in hopes of reducing the existing disparities in disease morbidity. This program will aim to increase: 1) understanding of disparities present in asthma prevalence, 2) knowledge of the factors that contribute to these disparities, 3) understanding of how asthma treatments, clinical variability, and access to care impact these disparities, and 4) knowledge about what is needed to improve health care equity in asthma specialty care.
